Vola POTS Media SBC is a cloud-based Session Border Controller that provides POTS replacement services. Vola POTS Media SBC provides the capability to most parts of the PBX system.

The Need for Stability in POTS Media Transmission

Compared to PSTN, the IP network is relatively unstable. Due to the complexity of modern networks, Jitter, lag, and packet loss happen from time to time. Today, new network protocols have a wealth of mechanisms to deal with these issues, but POTS Media is not suitable for such an environment since they were developed under the stable PSTN.

Generally, the transmission of POTS Media (Contact ID/Modem/FAX data) is sensitive to network quality, Vola SBC provides a way to transmit POTS Media stably under unpredictable Networks.

Adaptive in Complex Network Environments

Normally, we can divide our Internet into 2 parts: The core network and the Access network. The security and stability requirements of the core network are extremely high, as they directly affect the operation of the entire network. Most importantly, the core networks provide QoS and SLA while access networks don’t.

The core network is reliable at a high level. Access network usually has less stability since the bandwidth of a specific area is fixed and the maintenance of network units in the access network is not as highly responsive as the core network. It only provides a “best effort” connection.

Such differences lead to one result: network jitter, network latency and packet loss in access networks happen from time to time.

Vola SBC provides a variety of strategies to deal with Network Jitter, Network Latency, and Packet loss between the access network to the core network. With Vola SBC, we fix the frustrating issues between the POTS terminal and cloud server, hence enhancing the service quality of your POTS replacement solution.
